The Qatar 2022 campaign
The Netherlands topped Group A with seven points and beat the United States in the round of 16. Against Argentina, they recovered from two goals down through Weghorst's double, only to lose the shoot-out after a 2–2 draw. No opponent beat them within playing time in Qatar, but that did not prevent a quarter-final exit.
Reading the record
Netherlands recorded 3 wins, 2 draws and 0 defeats across 5 matches, scoring 10 goals and conceding 4. FIFA’s match summaries record 16 attempts on target from 40 total attempts during their campaign.
Shoot-outs decide which team advances, but their kicks are excluded from the goal totals above. Matches decided on penalties count as draws in this win–draw–loss record; extra-time goals count towards the match score.
Matches to revisit
Start with the United States match for the Dutch knockout win, then the Argentina tie for their most dramatic recovery.
