🇲🇦 Morocco
A first African semi-final built across seven games
The Qatar 2022 campaign
Morocco topped Group F unbeaten, then eliminated Spain on penalties and Portugal by one goal. France stopped their title challenge in the semi-final, and Croatia won the third-place match. Fourth place completed the first men's World Cup semi-final campaign by an African team. The run joined disciplined group results to two very different knockout victories.
Reading the record
Morocco recorded 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats across 7 matches, scoring 6 goals and conceding 5. FIFA’s match summaries record 17 attempts on target from 61 total attempts during their campaign.
Shoot-outs decide which team advances, but their kicks are excluded from the goal totals above. Matches decided on penalties count as draws in this win–draw–loss record; extra-time goals count towards the match score.
Matches to revisit
Spain tested Morocco's ability to remain level; Portugal tested their ability to defend a lead with history within reach.
Final Group F standings
